Caribou’s seniors have arrived (at school)

CARIBOU, Maine — Many Caribou High School seniors took the long route driving to school yesterday morning, taking a slow, noisy and colorful detour while participating in the annual Senior Parade.
Though the annual event has been a right of passage for seniors that spans decades, the activity is not sanctioned by RSU 39 — but that’s never stopped the enthusiastic students.
“It’s tradition; we do it every year,” explained Anthony Bahe yesterday morning. He drove a decorated SUV filled with fellow students through the annual procession. “It’s pretty much school spirit — whoever has school spirit can do it.”
The parade started at Skyway Plaza and slowly made its way to the Caribou High School, circling the building multiple times before the students parked and headed in to class. There was music, a megaphone, plenty of streamers, water guns and window paint — Keith Draper even affixed a working school bus stop sign to the back of his truck.
Though the celebration has already started, as apparent by yesterday’s parade, Caribou High School’s graduation takes place on Sunday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at the High School. Alternative Education graduation takes place on Thursday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Learning Center, next to the recreation center.
