State track and field meets involving local schools were held Saturday, marking the end of the season for varsity athletes.
At Brewer, Caribou competed in the Class B event. The Viking girls scored nine points on the day, with Alissa Irving providing six of those with her third-place finish in the 1,600-meter race walk. Her time was 8 minutes and 25.9 seconds. Kate Finnemore also placed, taking sixth in 9:24.73.
Sarah Doak placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run at 5:33.88 to round out Caribou’s scoring.
For the boys, Caribou had a total of 13 points. Mitchell St. Peter came in second in the race walk in 7:36.75, Emilo Garcia was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.09 seconds and two Viking relay teams placed seventh. The 4×800 team, consisting of Elijah Verhoff, Lucas Kinney, Alex Losieniecki and Derek Richardson, had a time of 8:54.17 and the 4×400 team, made up of Richard Newland, Keith Draper, Kameron Manter and Losieniecki, finished in 3:40.59.
The Waterville boys and girls were the Class B team champions.
The Washburn girls used first-place performances by the 4×100 relay team and Carsyn Koch in the high jump to score 20 points in the Class C meet held in Dover-Foxcroft.
The relay team, consisting of Carsyn and Tori Koch, Joan Overman and Tyra Shaw, was the winner with a time of 51.8 seconds, which was 78/100ths of a second faster than the runner-up team from Traip Academy in Kittery.
Carsyn Koch also won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 5-1/2 inches, establishing a new Class C state record which had stood for 18 years.
Fort Fairfield and Limestone-MSSM also had female athletes competing, but none placed.
In the boys’ meet, Fort Fairfield scored six points behind a pair of fifth-place finishes by Caleb Daigle in both the 400 and the 200. Daigle ran the 400 in 53.7 seconds and the 200 in 23.95 seconds.
Grier Osterman provided Limestone-MSSM with its only points by placing sixth in the 300 hurdles in 43.64 seconds.
Orono won the girls’ team title, with Lisbon taking the boys’ championship.
