Moose drawing in PI on Saturday

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — For the first time since 2009, the State of Maine Moose Lottery is being staged in Aroostook County as the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall will host Saturday’s event.
The last Aroostook County venue to host the annual moose lottery was the University of Maine at Fort Kent and Nick Archer, vice president of this year’s sponsor, the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, is excited it’s back in the area.
“It’s outstanding,” Archer said. “It’s an opportunity for northern Maine to show itself and gives people in the area a chance to attend an event that is very popular.”

Numerous vendors from throughout the state will be on hand, including the L.L. Bean Bootmobile. Bluegrass music, featuring local bands Fiddle Heads and Left Over Biscuits, will be played from noon-2 p.m., with the Maine Professional Guides Association moose calling contest taking place at 2 p.m.
The moose drawing gets under way at 3 p.m. and goes on until all the names are drawn. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is issuing 3,095 permits statewide.
Doors to Gentile Hall open at 11 a.m.
“It’s a real opportunity to come out to enjoy this great event and be entertained,” Archer added.
