Davis, Joy E., 59, Forest, Va.; in Forest, Va., June 2, 2009.
FOREST, Va. – Joy E. Davis, 59, went home to be with the Lord June 2, 2009, while surrounded by her family. She graciously lost her fight with cancer and died in her home. Joy was born July 6, 1949, in Farmington.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, Aug. 23, 1969, in Lee. They raised their family in Loudon, N.H., and moved to Forest, Va., in 1998. With her love for people, she enjoyed being a loan officer in Forest, Va., for several years. She was also a member of three decorative painting guilds, including National Association of Decorative Painters, a charter member of The White Mountain Decorative Painting Guild in New Hampshire, and a two-time president of Shades of the Blue Ridge, Lynchburg, Va. She enjoyed music, loved to play the piano, and was an accomplished seamstress. Writing was another creative talent and she enjoyed composing Christmas poems, children's poems, devotionals and short stories.
She is survived by her husband, David L. Davis; and three grown children, Garrel Craig and spouse, Judy, from Maine, Denise Tyree and spouse, Jason, from Forest, Va., and Derek Davis and spouse, Tracey, from Lynchburg, Va. She is also survived by her parents, the Rev. Otto and Muriel Palmer; and brother, the Rev. Larry Palmer and wife, Becky, from Presque Isle. Seven precious grandchildren will miss her, but treasure all the time she spent with them. Without a doubt, she cherished being a wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful women's Bible study teacher.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, in the Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Falwell. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Bedford Memorial Hospital Hospice.
