FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The Maine Agri-Women will sponsor a potato cooking contest at the 67th annual Maine Potato Blossom Festival. The goal of the contest is to promote and bring attention to the importance of the potato to Aroostook County.

The contest will be held Saturday, July 19 at the Fort Fairfield Elementary School cafeteria. Entrants are urged to bring in dishes between 10-10:30 a.m. Judging will begin at 10:30 a.m.
There are six categories in the potato cooking contest: breads, casseroles, desserts, salads, soups and appetizers. Winners in each category will be based on four qualities: appearance of each dish, texture, ease of preparation, and flavor.
Recipes must have fresh Maine potatoes as an ingredient. Contestants must bring a copy of the complete recipe along with the dish. Contestants may cook a recipe for two categories.
The grand prize will be worth $150. There will also be first- and second-place prizes in each category.
