CARIBOU, Maine — The 2014 Caribou and Presque Isle Men’s Softball League season wrapped up with the County Boys claiming the playoff championship with a 16-11 win over Griffeth Ford Aug. 2, 2014.
It was not an easy task as undefeated Griffeth Ford gave the County Boys two great games but fell short. The final game was exciting as both teams were tied at 11 through eight innings. In the top of the ninth, the County Boys broke open the game by scoring five runs and running away with the victory.
Ryan Ouellette walked to start the inning. Cory Dickinson singled and Matt Milliard walked to load the bases. Josh Doucette’s sacrifice fly scored Dickinson to put the County Boys on top. Jordan Haines and Eric Berube both had hits to push along the runners for four more runs before the inning came to an end. Griffeth was held scoreless in its half of the inning.
Sam Robertson hit a pair of three-run home runs and Jon Noyes went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles to lead the winning offense.
Griffeth Ford’s Jason House and Cameron Anderson both hit home runs. Phil St. Peter, Seth McCrossin and Steven St. Peter all had three singles. Dan Umphrey hit a double and two singles while Joe Soucy contributed two singles.
Gilman Electric placed third and T.W. Willard fourth in the six-team, double-elimination event, which took place at the Teague Park field.
