Local genealogists have written a new book about the region’s genealogy, titled “The Families of the Upper Saint John Valley in 1790.”
The book provides information on 68 families on both sides of the river, and each chapter includes the head of household, their spouse(s) and respective parents, their children and whom they married. It also details the head of household’s occupation(s), applicable crown land grant(s) and acreage received.
Its authors explained that the book also gives citations to research lines back to Acadia, Quebec and beyond, “this facilitating research using other genealogical works/sources,” and stated that the book is a companion to the original 1790 United States federal census for the Province of Maine.
The fully-indexed, 68 chapter book is 240 pages long and costs $34 in U.S. funds, tax included but shipping costs are additional.
