The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s peewee soccer program is underway and the following is a recap of the first two weeks of play.
World League (grades 5 and 6)
Barcelona vs. Manchester United — Barcelona’s Brevin Barnes scored a hat trick, with Sawyer Deprey, Colin Poitras and Malichia Willey all assisting on Barnes’ goals. Sam Marquis was tough in goal as he helped keep everything out of the back of the net. Sage Dubay and Oliver Peterson played great defense. Barcelona’s Cody Martin and Tyler Seaman anchored a solid defensive line.
Real Madrid vs. Barcelona — Alex Picard made two great saves in the second half, while Caleb Espling didn’t allow a goal in the first half. Abbie McNeal and Zach Judd played a great midfield and distributed the ball well to teammates. Scorers for Real Madrid were Riley Bouchard, Ethan Holdsworth, Diego Fleury, Lauren Craig and Ari Plante. Holdsworth, Bouchard, and Plante all had assists as well. Brevin Barnes played well for Team Barcelona, putting several shots on goal and capitalizing on a couple. Sam Marquis was an anchor on defense. Kaitlyn Nadeau and Ethan Edgecomb also played great defense in this contest.
Premier League (grades 3 and 4)
Timbers vs. Red Bulls — The Timbers started out the season hot by scoring multiple goals. Ashlyn Bouchard and Jude Shea both netted the goals for the team. Dylan Bouchard assisted Shea on one of the goals. Noah Anderson had a great defensive game. Keegan Bell came up with four great saves in goal, with one of them being a diving stop. Dawson Whitten and Anna Jandreau were offensive contributors in this match with the Timbers. Romeo Gutierrez, Blake Anderson and Pheobe Soloman showed great hustle all over the field. Eliott Sleeper and Griffin McNeal all had some good shots on goal.
Galaxy vs. Revolution — The Revolution rallied for eight goals in the opener. Kaleb Finelli got the hat trick with three goals, Konnor Huckins added two goals while Selena Savage, Tyra Sterner and Darian Langille chipped in with one goal apiece. Mason St. Peter, James Cherrier and Jaden Picard rounded out the offensive unit and contributed with good hustle and sharp passing. The defense, comprised of Reece Cavagnaro, Calvin Hersey, Calvin Chen, Neveah Trombley and Cameron Belanger, held off many good runs at the goal by the Galaxy. Logan Griffeth led the Galaxy with two goals and Eyzic McBreairty added another. PJ McDonough did a great job in goal and Emily Gallagher and Ilsah Peterson made a few key plays to stop scoring chances.
Red Bulls vs. Galaxy — Galaxy’s Jessie Tagget played good defense and had a few key takeaways. Alex Belanger played goalie and had some great blocks. Emily Gallaher and Macie Towson kept the ball on the opponent’s side of the field. PJ McDonough blocked several shots as goalie to keep the game scoreless going into the half. After the break, PJ McDonough scored an unassisted goal. Macie Towson scored a goal with an assist from Ilsah Peterson and Alex Belanger scored an unassisted goal as Jasmine Berry made several kicks away from the goal to secure the tie. All the Red Bulls played until the final whistle blew.
Timbers vs. Revolution — This was a tough battle as Jude Shea scored the game’s only goal for the Timbers. The Revolution were unable to get any balls in the net this game, but a couple of good saves by goalkeepers Calvin Hersey, Reece Cavanaro and Kaleb Finelli held off the Timbers to the one goal. Strong defense by Cameron Belanger and Calvin Chen, with several great stops and good hustle by Konnor Huckins, led to several breakaways. Smart passing and ball control by Selena Savage and Jaden Picard kept pressure on the opponent’s end during the second half.
