Vikes garner first soccer victories

The Caribou girls and boys played their first home games of the season Saturday and the results were positive.
After both squads had lost their first two games on the road, to Presque Isle and Fort Kent, they came through with a doubleheader sweep over John Bapst of Bangor.
Bria Judd was the offensive hero for the Viking girls as she tallied five goals in the triumph. Hunter Milliard scored the first varsity goal of his career for the only goal of the match in the second game of the afternoon.
The Washburn boys came up with an upset victory, beating Easton on the road Thursday, while the Limestone-MSSM boys gave the defending Eastern Maine Class C champion Madawaska Owls a battle before falling short Friday.
The Beaver girls have now lost two in a row after starting out at 6-0. Easton and Ashland handed Washbun the losses in recent play. Limestone-MSSM’s girls are not only looking for their first win, but also their first goal as they have been blanked in all three of their matches.

Summaries of contests played Sept. 2-8 are as follows:

Washburn boys 1, Ashland 1 — Caleb Thompson made 15 saves Monday to help the Beavers earn a double-overtime tie against the Hornets.
Noah Caron scored off a Bryce Roix assist for 5-2-1 Washburn.
Cody Blair netted the goal for 2-1-2 Ashland, with Mark Chasse providing an assist. Tim Tarr made eight saves for the home team.
Ashland 5 girls, Washburn 1 — On Monday in Ashland, Caitlin Paradis had a hat trick and an assist to lead the undefeated Hornets past the Washburn Beavers.
Also scoring for 5-0 Ashland were Savannah Flint and freshman Amber Chasse with a goal apiece. Laura Sturgeon had one assist.
For Washburn, MacKenzie Worcester scored the Beavers’ (6-2) lone goal in the second half on a Joan Overman assist.
Washburn goalie Grace Braley made nine saves on 26 shots. Ashland’s Megan Cote made four saves on five shots.
   Caribou boys 1, John Bapst 0 — At Caribou Saturday, Milliard tallied the lone goal of the contest off a Dustin Bouchard assist with 6:36 remaining in the first half to lead the Vikings to their first victory of the season.
Caribou’s Taylor Thibodeau and Michael Hunter helped to control the midfield and set up several good scoring opportunities for Caribou, but the Bapst defense and goalkeeper Bach Nguyen were able to keep it a one-goal game throughout.
Ethan Plourde recorded the shutout with three saves on nine shots for 1-2 Caribou.
Nguyen recorded nine saves on 19 shots for John Bapst of Bangor, which was playing its season opener.
   Caribou girls 6, John Bapst 2 —Judd connected for four of her five goals in the first half, spearheading the Vikings to their first victory at home Saturday.
Maria Espinosa tallied a goal for Caribou, while Sarah Doak contributed three assists. Molly Adams and Gabrielle Marquis added one each. Morgan Outing stopped nine of 11 shots.
Crusader goalkeeper Anna Zmistowski stopped 11 of 17 shots.
   Madawaska boys 2, Limestone-MSSM 1 — At Madawaska Friday, Alex Nadeau scored two goals to carry the Owls to their fifth straight win of the season.
Nadeau scored his first goal with 7:30 remaining in the first half and scored his second with 12 minutes left in the second half. Limestone (0-3) tied the score at one with 18:30 left in second half when Sam Kupiec scored from about 40 yards out off a Madawaska defender. Jake Hebert and Craig Gendreau assisted on Nadeau’s two goals.
Madawaska goalie Greg Cyr had six saves on seven shots and Limestone goalie Dylan Nadeau made 12 saves on 14 shots.
Fort Kent boys 2 at Fort Fairfield 0 — At Fort Fairfield Friday, Josh Caron scored an unassisted goal in the first half and Ryan Chasse added one in the second as Fort Kent triumphed.
    Madawaska girls 12, Limestone-MSSM 0 — Eight different players scored goals Friday to lead the host Owls to the win over Limestone/MSSM.
Aspen Cote, Halie Landry, Desiree Belanger and Katie Cyr each scored two goals, while Dakota Cyr, Alexis Cote, Ashley Williams and Alexis Levesque each contributed one for the 4-1 Owls.
Limestone, now winless at 0-3, had three shots on goal. Limestone goalie Jackie Peers made eight saves off 25 shots.
Fort Fairfield girls 1, Fort Kent 1 — Chelsey Pelkey scored a first-half goal to put the Tigers on top in the first half Friday, but the Warriors tied the match in the second and the two teams played to a deadlock in Fort Fairfield.
    Easton girls 6, Washburn 2 — At Easton Thursday, Taylor Brown scored the first two of five unanswered first-half goals as the Bears rolled by the Beavers.
Brown scored six minutes into the game from a Kelsey Frank cross and struck two minutes later, this time converting a Kylee Carter cross. Elise Allen, Nichole Dudley and Carter then each added a goal before Washburn responded when Mackenzie Worcester scored off a Joan Overman assist.
Dudley answered for Easton with a goal from a Brown pass with seven minutes left in the half.
Overman added a second-half goal for Washburn.
Easton goalie Taylor Howe had seven saves against her former team and Washburn goalie Grace Braley recorded 13 saves.
Washburn boys 4, Easton 1 —The Beavers scored three first-half goals Thursday en route to the win over the Bears in Easton.
Noah Caron opened the scoring for Washburn at the 30:48 mark in the first half. Noah Farley added the second at the 19:54 mark and Alex Pelletier made it 3-0 at 16:45.
Easton’s Cody Halvorson scored to cut Washburn’s lead to 3-1 before Pelletier netted the final goal.
Jake Flewelling of the Bears made 10 saves on 16 shots while Thompson had 11 saves on 21 shots for Washburn .
    Fort Kent 3, Caribou 1 — Last Wednesday in Fort Kent, Brandon Theriault scored twice and Tito Naranja added an insurance goal to lead the Warriors past Caribou.
Theriault ‘s first goal gave the Warriors a 1-0 halftime lead. He then scored his second goal just 1:03 into the second half.
Caribou countered about six minutes later as Bouchard beat Fort Kent goalie Chris Daigle on an assist from Colby Holdsworth, but Naranja’s goal later in the half sealed the win for the home team.
Plourde made five saves on 19 shots for Caribou, while Daigle turned away 12 of 16 shots.
Easton 3, Fort Fairfield 2 — At Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, Jordan White scored late in the second half to lead Easton to the win.
Cody Halvorson and Sotomayor also scored for the Bears.
Johnny Theriault notched both goals for Fort Fairfield. Goalkeeper Dalton Cassidy had 11 saves on 17 shots for the Tigers and Flewelling had nine saves on 14 shots for Easton.
  Fort Kent girls 3, Caribou 1 — At Fort Kent last Tuesday, Danielle Pelletier scored two goals to lead the Warriors over the Vikings.
Pelletier scored just over five minutes into the contest on a Cassidy Lovely assist. She added her second tally of the night with 19:43 left in the second half on an Erin Chasse assist after a 45-minute weather delay. Sadie Desjardins scored the Warriors’ third goal on a second-half penalty kick.
The Vikings’ Sarah Doak scored on a direct kick with 17:23 left in the game.
Fort Kent goalkeeper Alexa Pelletier made 12 saves on 13 Caribou shots while Outing stopped nine of 12 Warrior shots in the contest.
