Roope, Brenda McLaughlin, 74, August 31, 2014. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, September 14 at 1 p.m. at the Hampden Congregational Church.
FORT FAIRFIELD & WINTERPORT – Brenda McLaughlin Roope, 74, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 31, 2014. She was born, August 6, 1940, in Caribou, ME, she was the daughter of Donald and Mildred McLaughlin.
She graduated from Caribou High School in 1959 and Eastern Maine General Hospital in 1962 as a Registered Nurse.
Brenda married William H. Roope in 1962 and they raised their family in Fort Fairfield. In 1992, they moved to Winterport to be closer to their grandchildren.
She worked at Community General Hospital in Fort Fairfield and Presque Isle Nursing & Rehab from 1975 – 1992. She dearly loved working as the Director of Nursing at Phillips Strickland House in Bangor from 1992 – 2009. Her love for working continued after retirement when she worked for the City of Bangor Immunization Clinic and for D.L. Roope Administrations.
Brenda is survived by her husband and best friend of 52 years, William H. Roope; their son, William H. Roope Jr. and his wife, Deborah Roope; their daughter, Rebecca J. Lamb and her husband, Ken Lamb and their daughter, Robyn L. Roope and her partner, Alyssa Lodewick.
Brenda had a unique and special love for her grandchildren, Matthew W. Roope and Ashley N. Cooper. Brenda’s heart overflowed with love for her great-granddaughter, Alexis Genevieve Cooper, who brought tremendous joy to her life. She is also survived by several dear cousins and their families, and many special nieces and nephews, too numerous to list. She had a special love and connection with her sister-in-law, Regina Roope, and will be fondly remembered by her very dear friends, Stuart and Janet Burtchell of Fort Fairfield.
Brenda was pre-deceased by her parents, Mildred Curless McLaughlin and Donald W. McLaughlin.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at 1 p.m., at the Hampden Congregational Church at 101 Main Road North in Hampden, ME, with the Rev. William Walsh officiating.
