Cary Medical Center’s annual Health Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Caribou High School. The event, which features free flu shots, multiple health screenings and exhibitors is in its 34th year. The health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bill Flagg, director of community relations and development at Cary Medical Center said that the Health Fair has become a County tradition.
“I don’t believe there is another event like this that has been running for so many years in the nation,” said Flagg. “Thanks to many volunteers, the Cary Auxiliary and nursing students, the Health Fair just keeps getting better.”
This year’s event will mark the 90th anniversary of Cary Medical Center and everyone who attends the fair will receive a 90th Anniversary bookmark as a keepsake. The date of the health fair is the same day as National Drug Take Back Day and the Caribou Police Department will be setting up for their drug take-back program at the event. In addition, indivduals who attend the Health Fair can sign up for the hospital’s new 30four90 fitness challenge. The first 100 to sign up will get a free pedometer.
Health screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, pulmonary function tests and vision screenings. A free consumer handbook will be given to the first 100 people who attend the Fair. A bouncy house for children will also be available, along with healthy snacks.
Kim Parent, public relations generalist at Cary, is coordinating the event and said she has been very pleased with the response from exhibitors.
“Last year we had one of our most successful events ever with many new exhibitors attending,” said Parent. “We hope to attract even more this year and we invite local health agencies to contact us if they would like to participate.”
Free flu shots will be available and the Centers for Disease Control has now recommended that anyone over 6 months old get vaccinated against the flu.
