Limestone man to run for Maine House District 148

LIMESTONE, Maine — Greg Ward, a retired farmer from Limestone, has stepped forward to announce his candidacy to fill the vacancy created by State Rep. Bernard Ayotte who has termed out.
House District 148 now represents Limestone, Caswell, Fort Fairfield, Easton, Hamlin, Connor, Stockholm, Cyr Plantation and the SE corner of Presque Isle.
Several years ago, Ward decided that the problem with government was the fault of both major political parties and the only way to solve those problems was to elect independents who want to get things done. His main focus will be on government accountability, high ethical standards and the wise use of taxpayer’s money. He also understands and is committed to job creation, quality education and infrastructure improvement.
“Like most everyone else, I think jobs that pay fair and living wages with good benefits should be a high priority,” said Ward. “This would go a long way towards solving many of our problems,”
Greg is a lifelong resident of Limestone with the exception of the two years he spent in Washington D.C. until deciding to return home to farm.
“Life in the big city wasn’t for me,” said Ward.
During the first ten years that Ward farmed, he also completed a twenty-year career in the Army National Guard. His last three years he served as the Battalion Commander of the 152nd Field Artillery.
In the late nineties, Ward took a job with Sitel in order to have a work schedule to pursue some other endeavors. Working at Sitel was an experience that allowed Ward to meet many hard working people struggling to survive. Ward remains friends with many of those people to this day. Ward left Sitel to go to work with Primerica Financial Services, so he would be able to go back to college in 2002, completing a degree in Business Management from UMPI. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, and completed a goal Ward had started forty years before at the University of Maine at Orono.
Ward is a lifelong member and currently a trustee of the Limestone United Methodist Church. He has served on many boards including Selectman, he is the past president of the Limestone Rotary Club, executive director of the Limestone Development Foundation, life-member of the Military Officers of America Association and a longtime member of the American Legion. Ward and his wife Nancy — a retired teacher — raised and educated their children, Chrystal and John, in Limestone.
Ward’s candidacy is based on the belief that voters care more about good government and quality leadership than party affiliation and politics.
