CARIBOU — Aroostook Retired Educators Association (AREA) will meet Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Registration will be at 11 a.m. with a buffet luncheon to be served at noon. The cost of the meal is $13. Lunch will be followed by the program featuring guest speaker Steve Farnham of the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. The business meeting will follow.
AREA will continue to collect canned goods and non-perishable items to be distributed to local food pantries. The Association is also participating in the annual “Day of Caring.” The project for this three-year cycle is the “Bulging Backpack” project which involves filling a backpack with school supplies and donating it to an area school. This year’s backpack has been presented to the Mill Pond School in Hodgdon, representing the southern section of Aroostook. A school in the central section and a school in the northern will be recipients in the next two years. Donations for both projects may be brought to the September meeting.
All members are reminded to encourage retirees to join AREA.
