After an unseasonably cool week, it sure was nice to have a warm Sunday. We took advantage of the day with the Cari-Lime Tournament — a two weekend event that pits members of the Limestone Country Club against the Caribou Country Club. It’s not really a rivalry, but an excuse for a bunch of golfers to get together and have a good time. The tournament is the last real event of the summer for the CCC.
The Caribou Country Club is a really nice demonstration of can-do Caribou area spirit. Operating on a shoestring, the CCC had another fine year with wonderful conditions around the course thanks to several long hours of many volunteers. Pete Doebenner is about as good a president as there can be at a club like ours.
The thing I really like about the CCC is the lack of “airs” about the membership. With everyday folks sprinkled here and there by the more fortunate, the low membership dues allow many income levels to join and to play. It really reflect our area that the course is a homey, down-home atmosphere with much beauty everywhere you look.
Hopefully, there will be another couple of weeks we can play before the end of the season comes.
Any idea is a good idea. It just doesn’t always catch on. When you stop having ideas, then it is time to check on the heart meter to get a gauge on what is going on inside us. We often throw ideas at the wall and sometimes they stick and other times they don’t.
The recipe/cooking contest as part of the Alexander Cochran – Caribou Heritage Day celebration was a nice idea. It was thrown at the wall and it did not stick. There was not an interest from the public, and that’s okay. We will file it away and maybe try it again some other day or time. In the meantime, it is off the docket for this weekend’s activities.
But that doesn’t mean that Saturday won’t be a blast! See the ad in this paper for the full day of activities. And don’t forget that Cary Medical Center is having their annual health fair at the high school as well and that the Caribou Historical Society is celebrating its 40th Anniversary Saturday from 12-4.
There is a lot going on! Make a full day of it and take it all in. And don’t forget the free music at the High School starting at 6 p.m. and the fireworks that will follow at 8:30. The fireworks are going to be grand!
At the last board meeting of the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce, the board voted unanimously to invite Ben Willey to the board of directors. Ben will be a fresh face and a youthful addition who is sure to bring his same “go get‘em” attitude to the Chamber that he does to his businesses: RLW Management, Inc., Quality Home Services and Precision Lawn Services. Welcome aboard (pun), Ben!
I will see you Saturday! Have a great week!
