Presque Isle's baseball and softball teams fell on June 9 in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Maine Class B playoffs.
The Wildcat boys traveled to Caribou to meet up with their Viking rivals, but were defeated 7-0 as Caribou's Philip St. Peter, Chad McCarthy and Eric Brown only gave up two-hits. Presque Isle left more than a few men on base and in scoring position, but neither Eric Morris' double or Zach Campbell's single were enough to send any Wildcats home. Presque Isle's defense held the Vikings at zero in the first inning, but a second-inning double from Cameron Anderson put Caribou on the board for two. The Vikings scored again in the third inning, twice in the fourth and one time each in the fifth and sixth with runs from McCarthy and Ethan McDuffie, who homered. Junior Brennen Shaw took the loss.
Though seeded higher than their Gardiner opponents, the Lady Wildcats were outpaced by the Lady Tigers at home in their 5-4 loss. Gardiner scored three unearned runs in the first inning as Presque Isle struggled to regain composure. Krista Coffin led her team and, after the first inning, only allowed two more runs in the second inning for Gardiner before shutting the Lady Tigers down.
Presque Isle attempted a comeback in the second inning, but only scored one run and decreased the deficit to 5-2 in the fifth but even a seventh inning two-run rally wasn't enough to tied the game as the Lady Wildcats' season ended at home. For Presque Isle, Chelsea Nickerson singled twice and doubled while Jenna Stephenson had two singles and an RBI.
