CMS dominates middle school meet

CARIBOU, Maine — Eighty two runners representing four Aroostook County middle schools met Thursday for the cross country league championship meet, held at Caribou High School.
The host Vikings captured the team titles in easy fashion. The girls had four runners in the top six and scored 31 points, with Presque Isle next with 49. Greater Houlton Christian Academy was third with 67 and Union 122 fourth with 90. For the boys, Caribou featured the top two finishers and had four within the top eight to score 27 points. Union 122 was second with 59, GHCA third with 65 and Presque Isle fourth with 69.


Individually, Teagan Ewings of GHCA came in first place in the girls’ two-mile race, crossing the finish line in 13 minutes and 4.03 seconds. Maddison Jandreau and Emily Austin, both of Caribou, were second and third, respectively. Jandreau’s time was 13:24.37 and Austin’s was 13:39.45.
Presque Isle’s Elexis Lunn placed fourth in 14:03.22 and in fifth was Chelsea Levesque of Caribou in 14:12.46.
The remainder of the top 10 included, in order, Danielle Cyr of Caribou (14:13.19), Mia Henderson of GHCA (14:24.95), Maren Moir of Union 122 (14:28.67), Annicka Benson of Presque Isle (14:32.21) and Olivia Nadeau of GHCA (14:32.83).
The boys’ champion was Logan Lusardi of Caribou in 12:01.65. Teammate Jacob Berkoski was the runner-up in 12:08.44, while Will Austin of GHCA took third in 12:14.10. Coming in fourth was Presque Isle’s Tommy Popov in 12:14.82, while Carter Quist of the Vikings took fifth in 12:16.37.
Making up the rest of the top 10 were Cole Winslow of GHCA (12:54.28), John O’Meara of Union 122 (13:24.74), Aaron Macek of Caribou (13:39.13), Kolby Fisher of Union 122 (13:48.8) and Dylan Dodd of Union 122 (13:54).
