Locals to be honored at NRCM event

10 years ago

    Several local people are among those being recognized on Wednesday, Oct. 15, during a celebration of citizen activism, courage and leadership.

    “Climate change, groundwater pollution, the deterioration of the water quality in our lakes, and threats to the coast — what do these issues have in common? They have galvanized the strength and determination of nine extraordinary citizen activists whom we will honor this year with Natural Resource Council of Maine’s annual Conservation Leadership Awards,” said Lisa Pohlmann, NRCM executive director.
    “Please join us from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Maple Hill Farm Inn and Conference Center in Hallowell as the NRCM community honors these individuals,” said Pohlmann.
    Local honorees include:
• Lorette Adams (Easton), Alice Bolstridge (Presque Isle), Gail Maynard (Woodland), and Shelly Mountain (Mapleton) for their unwavering determination to ensure that Maine implements strong, common sense regulations to protect our waters, wildlife and citizens from dangerous mining pollution;
    RSVP online at http://nrcm.kintera.org/awards or call Joyce Gracie directly at 430-0128.
    The reception begins at 5 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 6. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar provided.
