AUGUSTA — Chapman Selectwoman Patricia Sutherland, who currently serves on the Maine Municipal Association’s Executive Committee, was recently re-elected to a three-year term that starts in January.
Sutherland was elected this year to her fourth, three-year term as a Chapman selectwoman. She previously served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives and was House chair of the Education Committee during her second term. She is retired after 20 years as an administrator with NMCC, and serves on the executive committee of Northern Maine Development Commission.
Founded in 1936, the MMA is a voluntary, non-partisan, member-service organization to which 487 municipalities in Maine belong. It has a core belief that local government is a fundamental component of a democratic system of government. MMA’s services include advocacy, education and information, professional legal and personnel advisory services and self-funded group insurance programs.
Also elected to three-year terms on the executive committee were Orono Town Councilor Cynthia Mehnert and Kennebunkport Town Manager Laurie Smith. In addition, Michelle Beal, Ellsworth city manager, will serve as president; while Stephan Bunker, Farmington selectman, was named vice president
