CARIBOU — The Daughters of Isabella held a potluck supper meeting on Oct. 7 at 5:30 at the parish center. The six guests in attendance were: our Pastor Father Jean-Paul Labrie, Rita Worley, Cindy Gagnon, Katheline Nadeau, Gloria Theriault and Darlene Saunders.
The potluck supper meeting was chaired by Debbie Chabre, Madeline Guerrette, Lou Wark and Jeanine Belanger. Doris Albert filled in as Lou Wark and Jeanine Belanger could not be there.
Regent Mary Ellen Field convened the meeting at 6:10 p.m. She welcomed all guests present and thanked the committee for the Halloween décor.
The Happy Birthday gift went to Jacqueline Johnson and the group sang “Happy Birthday.” The 50/50 raffle in the amount of $20 was won by Priscilla Foley.
Visitation of the Sick Chairperson Elaine Haines reported cards were sent to Stella Carlstrom, Norma Bouchard and Lou Wark. Cards will be sent to Annette.
Draping of the charter in memory of our deceased sister, Theresa Cummings, was led by Regent Mary Ellen Field with Past Regent Gail Hjort, Chancellor Jeanine Morneault and Monitor Madeline Guerrette. The song, “O, What Could My Jesus Do More,” was sung.
Correspondence received included a “thank you” note from Loretta Williams and a note from Mike McCormack thanking Daughters for being present at the wake and funeral for his mom, Martha McCormack. Correspondence also included a letter from Aroostook Partners for the Boy Scouts gathering at the Chan Center on Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m., asking for a pledge.
We also received a reminder for the conferral of degrees held on Oct. 18 in southern Maine. No one from our circle will be able to attend. We will try to have one here in the County in the spring.
Scribe Dolores Martin gave her report and said she was pleased with the coverage being posted in The Aroostook Republican every month.
She also asked each Daughter to take the discount cards and sell them for the coming season. This is our only fundraiser and it greatly benefits the fuel fund in our parish. She told members that these vendors can be visited every day of the year and it is a gift that keeps on giving.
A motion was made by Jean Bushnell and seconded by Vi Cummings to give a donation of $50 to the Boy Scout dinner function on Oct. 15. Motion carried.
A new ministry has been implemented at our parish. It is the Blanket Ministry and these blankets will be in the food baskets that are given out in December. Member Jackie Johnson displayed a couple of the blankets and asked for members to help cut and tie knots on the blankets. Several members signed up to help in this ministry. Over 100 blankets will be donated this season. If anyone wants to donate or help on it please contact Jackie Johnson, Ruth Gahagan or Pat Caspersen.
Next month’s refreshment committee will be Dolores D. Martin, chairwoman, with Joan Bishop, Doris Albert and Jeanine Morneault.
Regent Mary Ellen asked Past Regent Gail Hjort to talk on the benefits of membership in our Circle. Application forms were passed out to guests present who might be interested in joining us in our works of friendship, charity and unity.
Closing prayer was recited and the song, “We’re the Daughters of Isabella,” was sung. Next month’s meeting will be held Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
