CARIBOU & NEW SWEDEN – Carola J. Bjork, 94, wife of the late Helmer Bjork, died November 3, 2014 at Caribou. She was born in New Sweden on January 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtie (Ek) Johnson.
She was a longtime faithful member of the New Sweden Covenant Church where she was a member of the Covenant Women’s Group. Carola was employed by several area restaurants over the years. She loved to read, do word games and spending time with her family at family gatherings.
She is survived by one son, Myron Bjork of Caribou; one daughter, Joanne Strid and her companion, Randy, of New Sweden; her brother, Lendal Johnson and wife, Deleen, of Caribou; her sisters; Eunice Tompkins of Winslow, Lois Gordon and husband, Kenneth, and Leatha Griffeth and husband, Dale, all of Caribou; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson of Brunswick; her grandchildren, Lori Hayes, and Wade Thibodeau and his companion, Lisa; great-grandchildren, Jennilee Viel, Katilyn Hayes and Mathew Thibodeau; three step-grand-children; five step-great-grand-children; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bjork was predeceased by her husband, Helmer, in 1988; a brother, Gordon; two infant brothers, Roger and Myron; a brother-in-law, Charles Tompkins; two sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
Memorial services were held 1 p.m. Friday, November 7, 2014, from the New Sweden Covenant Church with Rev. T. Daniel Clayborne, officiating. Following the service, a time of continued fellowship and refreshments with the family was held at the church dining hall. Interment was in the New Sweden Cemetery.
