• The first regular passenger train on the Van Buren extension will run from Van Buren to Caribou and back today.
• Walter Collins of Fort Fairfield’s Scates and Co. had charge of the company’s store in this village (Caribou) this week.

100 Years Ago-Nov. 19, 1914

• Printer open for business — Advertisement placed by L. K. Fisher of Caribou: “I wish to announce that I have leased the printing office owned by George A. Wright and formerly leased by C. A. Gammon. I am now prepared to do first class job printing.”
• News from Washburn — Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Churchill, having disposed of their house on Churchill street to Randolph Kierstead. Mr. D. M. Story got located in his new store on Main street and is now ready for business. William Haines left recently for Spencer, Mass. where he is to resume studies at the Kenyon Bible School.

75 Years Ago-Nov. 23, 1939

• Caribou skating rink constructed — Flooding of the new and enlarged Caribou Winter Carnival skating rink on Park St. is now in progress. The new rink will exceed 104 by 200 ft. and is to be managed by the carnival committee composed of J. J. Howlett, Hubert Wall and Walter Murphy.
• The latest toys — The following items were offered in J. C. Penney’s weekly advertisement: a remote control electric train set, $3.98; a Velocipedes tricycle, $2.98; a 20-inch Dandy Red (Flyer) steel wagon, 89 cents and an 11-inch life-like Bottle Baby, 98 cents.

50 Years Ago-Nov. 19, 1964

• Gauvin honored for service — The Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded posthumously to Capt. Roger E. Gauvin of Caribou, will be presented to his widow in an early December ceremony here. A U.S. Army helicopter pilot, Capt. Gauvin was killed in March of this year when his aircraft was shot down by the Viet Cong.
• Triangle 4-H elects officers — The Triangle 4-H Club met at the home of leader, Mrs. Glazier Sprague and the following officers were elected: Penny Jo Hall, president; Dawn Wark, vice president; Mary Sprague, secretary; Kathleen Ewing, treasurer; Stephen Drake, flag bearer and Kent Mockler, reporter.

25 Years Ago-Nov. 22, 1989

• Burger King returns to McCains — On the heels of its recent rejection of Maine potatoes for French fries, Burger King corporation has turned once more to McCain Foods Inc., this time to supply a new breakfast product — breakfast hash browns.
• Cary hosts fourth Turkey Trot — The fourth annual Turkey Trot 5K Road Race, sponsored by Cary Medical Center Sports Medicine and Solman Distributors, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at Carib ou High School. Overall men’s and women’s winners will receive a $50 Goldsmith’s gift certificate.
