Hometown Christmas happens Thursday

Thursday, December 11, 2014 will feature one of my favorite events: Caribou Hometown Christmas. Fourteen of our local businesses will stay open extra hours from 5 to 8 p.m. with special sales or promotions, refreshments and door prize drawings!

This second annual event will be held all over town at the following businesses: Brambleberry Market, Expect More Dollar Store, Mavor Optical, Freme’s Jewelry, Monica’s Scandinavian Gift Shop, Noyes Flower and Plant Shoppe, Options RTO, Plourde Furniture Company, Reno’s Family Restaurant, Sleepers, S.W. Collins Company, The Par & Grill, Works of Heart, and Big Cheese Pizza and More.
Make a night of it. Stop at them all! Have a great time!
This past Friday was a great time for our children and their parents as we celebrated the holidays as only our area can. Thanks to the Caribou Fire and Ambulance and Police departments, the Snowman Parade (big thank you to our members that participated!) brought Santa to the Caribou Wellness Center where kids were already busy decorating gingerbread houses thanks to Sleepers, Farms Bakery and Coffee Shop, the Caribou Parks and Rec department and Barb Aiken and her merry band of volunteers.
Meanwhile, the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce was on the other side of the Wellness Center with Santa’s Workshop with cookie decorating, ornament making, reindeer food making, coloring and Santa held court in the lobby. We gave away mittens courtesy of RSVP, Beanie Babies courtesy of the Brewer family in memory of their parents, candy canes and a gift bag. Three lucky children — Dominick Lemay, Madison Green and Shelby Barns — won door prizes.
Many thanks goes to Dana and his gang at Hannaford Supermarket for the cookies, McDonalds of Caribou for the punch and ice, the Chamber’s board of directors that worked hard and Loring Job Corps. Also thanks to our teenage volunteers who came and were wonderful. And, of course, a big thank you to Santa for coming!
The most important thing is that the kids had a great time and smiles were everywhere. Have a great week everyone!
