AUGUSTA, Maine — Sen. Mike Willette (R-Aroostook) invites local students to visit the statehouse to take part in the Senate’s honorary page program during the first session of the 127th Legislature, which convenes in January.
As an honorary page, students take part in the legislative session by distributing documents and assisting legislators on the Senate floor.
“I look forward to welcoming local students to the statehouse in the upcoming session,” said Willette. “The honorary page program is an excellent way for students to get to know Maine’s government better, and to hopefully gain enthusiasm for being active citizens.”
Parents or teachers can call the Maine Senate Majority Office at 287-1505 to sign up a student or group of students. Willette advises to please have the name, grade, hometown, and school name ready for each student. In addition, callers should also have in mind a few different dates that would work well. For January and February, the Senate will largely be in session only on Tuesdays and Thursdays with more days of the week added in March, April and May.
