After cold weather forced numerous postponements involving high school skiing over the past two weeks, the season finally resumed with a Nordic meet Friday at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle and an alpine meet Saturday at Bigrock Ski Area in Mars Hill.
On Friday, the Caribou girls and boys captured team titles, while Caribou’s Sarah Doak and Presque Isle’s Noah Rossignol won individual titles.
The Viking girls scored 13 points, 28 fewer than runner-up Fort Kent, which had 41. Presque Isle placed third in the meet which included five full teams and seven schools overall.
Doak won in 16 minutes and 15 seconds, while teammate Lauren Chapman was the runner-up in 17:37. Caribou skiers Madeline Gudde (18:23) and Eileen Patton (19:08) were fourth and sixth, respectively.
Kaley Norsworthy of Fort Fairfield fiished in 28:00.
For the boys, Rossignol captured the victory in 13:59, but Caribou was the team champ with 15 points —23 clear of second-place Fort Kent. Presque Isle was third with 45.
After Rossignol and Fort Kent’s Matthew Toussaint, Caribou had the next four finishers. The group was led by Caleb Willett in 14:19, followed by Lukas Lagasse (14:28), Riley McDuffie (14:48) and Michael Marquis (14:52).
Fort Fairfield’s Thomas Krause placed eighth in 15:08 and Viking freshman Dan Randolph took ninth in 15:17.
For the Maine School of Science and Mathematics, Grier Osterman had a clocking of 17:39.
On Saturday, conditions allowed for only the second alpine meet of the season. Slalom races were held both in the morning and afternoon for girls and boys.
In the morning run of the boys’ slalom, Caribou’s best performance was turned in by Scott Bray, who was 17th in 2:16.47.
Andy Russell of Caribou came in 14th in 2:06.56 during the afternoon runs.
In the girls’ morning race, Caribou’s Maura Freme was 11th in 2:22.55.
That afternoon, Ciara Richards was tops for Caribou, placing 11th in 2:28.02.
