The annual Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run was held Saturday in conjunction with the Moosestompers Weekend. Thirty-one “hardy” runners and 14 “fearless” walkers, noted Larry Tonzi, race organizer, braved the frigid conditions to run/walk the 5K course.
This was the first run in the 2015 Aroostook Müsterd Challenge Series.
Chris Rines was the overall winner with a time of 18:25, followed by Isaiah Brown in 18:46.
The first female to cross the finish line was Nicole Hanscom with a time of 22:29.
The overall top 10 included Rines, Brown, Peter Bates (21:04), Tom Wire (21:22), Doug Bailey (21:32), Tom Beckum (21:47), Hanscom, Angela Ewings (22:56), Roy Alden (23:40) and Emerson Wright (24:11).
The race raised $700 to help the Aid for Kids Organization.
“The race went smoothly and everyone appeared to have a good experience as evidenced by some of the photos posted,” Tonzi added.
Tonzi extended thanks to Katahdin Trust and their employees for all their support over these 31 years of sponsorship, as well as all the volunteers including Barb Tonzi, Sonya and Sara Elizabeth London, Greg Palmer, Chuck Taylor and the Hodgdon Hawks senior class.
Next year there will be new co-race directors in Al and Nicole Hanscom, who will continue this running tradition in Aroostook County.
“I had a great time directing the race for over 20 years and appreciate all the runners and all the support given to the race by local merchants,” Tonzi said.
