  FORT FAIRFIELD – Robert B. Blaisdell, 86, passed away Thursday morning, February 5, 2015 at a Caribou nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born October 18, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Wallace H. Sr. and Palmire O. (Dionne) Blaisdell.
    Robert attended Fort Fairfield schools and served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. Robert was a hard-working fun-loving generous man. He loved cars, candy bars and Orange Crush, but above all his family. In his early years, Robert farmed alongside his father and the best crew in the world, his children in which he instilled a great work ethic. He had a passion for history and genealogy. He also worked in snow removal at Loring AFB for a number of years. He also touched the lives of many people with his wit, storytelling and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. A very special thanks to the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center for providing above and beyond excellent care. Mr. Blaisdell was a member of the Fort Fairfield VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187.
    In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by one brother, Wallace Herbert “Herby” Blaisdell Jr.; and one sister, Joan Thomas.
    He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvette (Violette) Blaisdell of Fort Fairfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Jodi Blaisdell of Connor; six daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Larry Davis, Diana Hopkins, all of Portland, Susan and Patrick Carroll of Falmouth, Karen and Mark Sorgen of Lexington, S.C., Robin and David DeMerchant of Augusta, Betsy and Jeff Fechalos of Alpharetta, Ga., fifteen grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
    Friends called Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Rosser officiating. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Blaisdell to the Maine Veterans Home, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, Maine 04736. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
