North Lakes Fire and Rescue earns fourth safety award

North Lakes Fire and Rescue has received its fourth award for workplace safety from the Maine Bureau of Labor.
According to Chief Darren R. Woods, this award reflects the efforts of the firefighters within the department and the commitment of the County of Aroostook to ensure that they promote and improve conditions for the safety and health of employees.

“While it is not always possible to be completely safe doing this kind of work, our firefighters strive to ensure that proper safety measures are always taken, and that their training is kept up to date,” Woods said.
In order to receive this award, a complete review of all training records, policies and facilities was done by an inspector from the Bureau of Labor over a two-day period. This award is reviewed every two years.
“While this award exempts the department from enforcement inspections, we still plan to use the services of the Department of Labor and ensure that our facilities and training are everything that they should be,” Woods added.
North Lakes Fire & Rescue covers the areas of Sinclair, Cross Lake, Square Lake and Madawaska Lake. More information can be found at the department’s website at www.northlakesfireandrescue.org.
