AUGUSTA — Rep. Robert Saucier, D-Presque Isle, is supporting a bill that would make it easier for Maine’s veterans to access benefits they earned through their military service.
The measure would require that driver’s licenses and other state-issued ID cards have the word “veteran” included on the portion of the card that describes military status.
“No veteran should be denied access to the benefits they deserve,” said Saucier. “This bill is a simple way to prevent any mishaps or mistakes when a veteran goes to collect their state-funded benefits or other discounts.”
The Legislature’s Transportation Committee will hold a public hearing on the bill in the coming weeks.

He is a retired officer with the Maine Army National Guard and former Commander of C Battery in Fort Kent and former commander of Headquarters Battery in Caribou.
