CARIBOU, Maine — City councilors authorized the sale of the former ATX building, the Herschel Street parking lot and the 7 Hatch Drive parking lot — save 17 spaces in the Hatch Drive lot that will be sold to the Caribou Office Park owner Phil St. Peter.
The inbound and outbound call center Sitel has announced that it will be moving into the former ATX building and by passing Monday night’s ordinance, council authorized City Manger Austin Bleess to move forward with the property sale.
The cause of lively discussion was a request by St. Peter, his family and one of his Caribou Office Park tenants for the city to sell 10 additional parking spaces to St. Peter. After nearly two hours of discussion on the ordinance, 10 additional parking spaces were not sold for the Caribou Office Park.
Bleess explained on Tuesday that the St. Peters had three prior opportunities to buy the parking lot — once at a public bid, once for $1 and once for $8,000.
The next meeting of the Caribou City Council is slated for Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m. in the councilor’s chambers.
