Mr. Robert “Bob” Leopold Dasch, 82, died peacefully at home with his wife of 58 years by his side on February 26, 2015. Bob was born on August 6, 1932, in Towson, MD to Leopold and Harriet Dasch.
After high school, he served four years in the Army during the Korean conflict and then served another 20 years in the Air Force serving two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1974 from the military and started his second career as a teacher at the Caribou Vocational Center where he would spend another 20 years. He married Dolores Giardullo on April 7, 1956. They would end up raising seven children in a loving, secure family on a farm in New Sweden, ME which the children still refer to as “home”. His children remember him as an extremely patient, sincere, gentle father who was never too busy for them. He instilled the value of hard work into them at a young age.
Bob not only was loved deeply by his family but he touched many of his students as well. Even after being retired from teaching for over 20 years, his former students would stop by to visit him often. He was an individual who was happiest when his family was gathered together. After retiring, he moved to southern Maine to be near his children and grandchildren. In his retirement, he loved gardening and tinkering in his workshop.
Bob is survived by his wife Dolores; his sons, Robert Jr. and wife, LeeAnn, of Pittsfield, MA, Jim and his wife, Tammy, of Bowdoinham, ME, Greg and his wife, Sue, of Portland, ME; and his daughters, Karen Adams and husband, Paul, of Gardiner, ME, Dianne McDougal of Bath, ME, and Jodi Wolverton and husband, Joe, of Lewiston, ME. He is preceded in death by another daughter, Dawn Dasch. Bob is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family is having a private viewing and will hold a private ceremony in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the VFW 9389 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME.
