CARIBOU — Members of the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen came to a startling realization during their meeting with the Kiwanis Club earlier this season — the group turned to say the pledge of allegiance only to realize that the facility lacked an American flag.

Director of the soup kitchen Jean Miesburger jumped into action and sent out inquiries in hopes of securing a Stars and Stripes for the facility; her efforts came to fruition earlier this month.
Representative of U.S. Senator Susan Collins’ Caribou office Phil Bosse presented Bread of Life Board members with an American flag on March 2; coordinated by the senator, it was the very same flag that flew over the U.S. Capital in honor of the dedicated volunteers of the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen.
Board members praised Miesburger for her diligence and offered a sincere thanks to Sen. Collins as well as Bosse, who met with the group on March 2 for the presentation of the flag and a certificate signifying that the flag was flown in honor of the Bread of Life volunteers.
“The flag and documentation will find a place of honor within our Odd Fellows Hall facility,” said Bread of Life board member Kenneth Murchison.
