CARIBOU, Maine — The president of the Caribou Snowmobile Club, Bob Kerber, presented the city of Caribou with a check in the amount of $3,000 at the March city council meeting Monday.
“We want to support snowmobiling here in Caribou and The County,” Kerber said.
The money, representing proceeds from the club’s drag races held in January, will go to the city’s trail groomer reserve fund, according to Caribou Parks and Rec superintendent Gary Marquis.
“The money is a nice gesture from the club. It’s a sign of good faith for the any future groomer purchases,” Marquis said. Marquis is also a board member on the Caribou Snowmobile Club.
The club pays any shortfall costs the city may have when a trail groomer is purchased, and according to Marquis the club spent over $26,000 to help with the city’s most recent purchase of a trail groomer.
“When you snowmobile and you’re out there you realize what a great job Parks and Rec does. They operate and maintain those trails,” Kerber said.
The recent drag race event saw over 100 racers and over 700 spectators. The club plans on having future drag races later this year.
