CARIBOU, Maine — The Aroostook League held its annual Scholar/Athlete Banquet March 16 at the Caribou Vocational/Technical Center.
The meal was served by the students in the center’s culinary arts program and Bill Ashby, the men’s soccer coach at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, gave an outstanding talk to the students and it was well received.
Sue Parent, athletic director at Van Buren High School, was recognized for her 18 years as the Van Buren athletic director. She will be retiring in June.
All student-athletes were presented a certificate from the Aroostook League for their accomplishments on the athletic fields and in the classroom.
In January 2016, the Aroostook League will be awarding $400 scholarships to 10 students upon successful completion of their first semester of college next fall. The scholarships were awarded by a blind draw.
Winners were Mitchell St. Peter of Caribou, Chandler Brewer of Central Aroostook, Shey Lane of Katahdin, Ethan Wetmore of Madawaska, Kevin Chamberland of Wisdom, Allison McEwen of East Grand, Rachel Potter of Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Kassadi Moore of Katahdin, Ellyzabeth Bencivenga of Limestone/MSSM and Felisha Bouchard, Van Buren.
The other scholar-athletes were Wyatt Condon and Marissa Chasse, both of Ashland; Sarah Doak of Caribou, Whitnie Bradbury of Central Aroostook, Cody Halvorson and Kylee Carter, both of Easton; Robbie Watson and Megan Jellison, both of Fort Fairfield; Tito Naranja and Kendra Raymond, both of Fort Kent; Jessi Tracy of Hodgdon, Christian Crane and Morgan Wotton, both of Houlton; Sam Kupiec of Limestone-MSSM, Alexis Cote of Madawaska, Benjamin Nickerson and Kelsey Gilson, both of Presque Isle; Parker Walker and Cassidy Lyons, both of Southern Aroostook; Chandler Madore of Van Buren, Michael Ericson and Mackenzie Worcester, both of Washburn; and Vanessa Pelletier of Wisdom.
