Banquet showcases FFA progress

CARIBOU, Maine — Agriculture aficionados gathered for the 85th annual Caribou Future Farmers of America banquet at Caribou High School on April 2.
The 2015 banquet was dedicated in memory of the late Kenneth W. Atcheson and Arnold G. Williams. Both Atcheson and Williams were local potato growers and benefactors of the Caribou FFA chapter.

FFA members, assisted by their adviser Casey Cote, cultivated a meal of spaghetti and meatballs for family and friends at a brief dinner before their award ceremony.
This year’s Greenhand awards went to Noah Margeson and Braeden Thibedau. Thibedau also received the Star Greenhand award.
Chapter Degrees went to Larry Spencer, Alexis McLean and Zach Spencer.
Elvine Thomas, John Rhines, and the Caribou Police Department, represented by Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan, were presented with awards as honorary members of the Caribou FFA chapter.
The evening closed with a raffle filled with items donated by local businesses.
Caribou High School senior and two-year FFA president for the Caribou chapter and state reporter sentinel, Tyler Raymond, said FFA has been a great experience and has helped him come out of his shell.
“I hope friends and family see tonight all the time students and faculty have put in and what an honor it is to be part of the FFA,” Raymond said.
The FFA state convention, held on the UMaine Campus in Orono, is set for May 14th and 15th. Members of the Caribou chapter of the FFA plan on having FFA Day on Friday, June 5th at the Caribou Technology Center for all RSU 39 third-grade students.
