LIMESTONE, Maine — Winter sports awards were presented to LCS/MSSM athletes recently. Awards were given in boys’ and girls’ basketball, nordic skiing and swimming.
The boys’ basketball team awards were presented by first-year coach Hank King. First-year team members that received a letter were Alex Sprague, Willie McGirt, David Smith, Dalton Canonico, Ivan Zembrusky, Thomas Dolloff, Justin Hamilton and manager Delaney Rossignol. Second-year players receiving service bars were Travis Hatfield, Andrew DeChaine and Ahmed Beshir, while Sam Kupiec received a service bar for his fourth year. McGirt was the recipient of the Coach’s Award for his efforts this season. Hatfield received the Most Improved Player Award and Smith was chosen as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
First-year girls’ coach Becky West congratulated her players on a successful season. First-year players receiving a letter were Jacinta Deschaine, Hui Kennedy, Leah Kihn, Stephenie Bragg, Josephine Sehon, Qianru “Ruby” Xu, Jessica Lindsay, Francesca Armstrong and manager Rebecca Dillenbeck.
Jessica Tucker was the only second-year player and received a service bar. Third-year players receiving service bars were Kassee Albert, Jackie Peers and Madeline Williams. Senior Ellyzabeth Bencivenga was the only player to receive her fourth-year service bar.
Albert received the Coach’s Award, Deschaine received the Most Improved Player Award and Bencivenga was chosen the team’s Most Valuable Player. Peers was also recognized for being selected to the All-Aroostook Team.
This season, a cooperative agreement was reached with Caribou High School for nordic skiing. Coaches PJ Gorneault and Evan Graves presented first-year letters to Grier Ostermann and Paddy Keith-Hardy. Service pins were awarded to Cecilia Howard, Eva Farkas, R. Tyler Simmons and Max Kay. Ostermann and Farkas were selected the team’s Most Valuable Skiers.
The members of the cooperative swim team were also recognized during the ceremony, though they received their awards at the Caribou High School awards presentation. Members of the All-Aroostook swim team were recognized, including Nathan Gere, Zeb Keith-Hardy, Laura Dolci, Mara McDonough, Abby Raymond, Andrea Rawson and Emma Vannorsdall.
Individual team award winners were McDonough with the Coach’s Award, Naomi Kihn with the Most Improved Award and Keith-Hardy with the Most Valuable Swimmer.
