Viking boys record victory in opening tennis match

BAR HARBOR, Maine — The Caribou boys’ tennis team opened its regular season in style Saturday with a victory in a match against Mount Desert Island.
The Vikings scored a 5-0 win as in singles play, Brendan Cyr defeated Kaleb Payson 8-2; Michael Marquis stopped Teddy Geary 8-1; and Ethan Plourde eased past Avery LaValle, 8-1.


In doubles, Austin Scott and Austin Cheplic edged Hunter Strauch and  Drake Janes, 8-6, while the duo of Alec Cyr and Dylan Cote was victorious over Jimmy Carroll and Spencer Michaud by the same 8-6 score.
The Caribou girls were defeated by the Trojans, 4-1.
The Vikings’ lone win came in second doubles as Ciara Richards and Ashley Matlock scored a 9-8 (7-0) triumph over MDI’s Emily Cough and Delaney Smith.
Caribou’s Makayla Bouchard, Gabrielle Marquis and Conner Spencer lost in singles play, whie the duo of Danielle Hanson and Taylor Fournier fell in doubles.
The Viking squads, coached by John Habeeb, will play their first home matches of the season Saturday.
The Hermon Hawks will be in town for matches beginning at 1 p.m.
