Portland firefighter Charles Loring, left, and his son Ryan recently met with Sen. Susan Collins at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Loring has a special tie to The County: His uncle was Major Charles Loring, a Medal of Honor recipient and the namesake the former Loring Air Force Base. The Medal of Honor is the United States of America’s highest military honor, awarded for personal acts of valor above and beyond the call of duty.
