CARIBOU, Maine — The Vikings swept a track and field meet involving all the Aroostook County schools, held Friday at Caribou High School.
The Caribou girls posted 227.25 points, easing
them past Presque Isle (86), Fort Fairfield (77.25), Fort Kent (52.25), Limestone-MSSM (52.25) and Houlton (35).
On the boys’ side, Caribou’s 190 points lifted them over the Wildcats, who finished with 105. Fort Fairfield (94), Limestone-MSSM (65.33), Fort Kent (58.33), Houlton (44) and Washburn (25) also took part.
Caribou’s first-place finishers were, for girls, Kendra Furber (1,600-meter race walk, 9:47.07), Madeline Gudde (1,600-meter run, 6:04.08; 800-meter run, 2:38.76), Eileen Patton (300 hurdles, 52.86 seconds), Sarah Doak (3,200-meter run, 12:44.14), the 4×400 relay team of Lauren Chapman, Patton, Gudde and Simona Amerio (4:57), Kaitlyn Ring (triple jump, 28 feet, 8-1/2 inches) and Maria Espinosa (pole vault, 6 feet).
Other winners were Presque Isle’s 4×800 relay team of Mandy Graham, Tori Koch, Alyssa Sweeney and Emily Colligan (11:20.3), Fort Kent’s Danielle Pelletier (100-meter dash, 13.81 seconds; 200-meter dash, 29.39 seconds), Presque Isle’s 4×100 relay team of Karen Jones, Elizabeth Findlen, Maddie Wing and Koch (56.98 seconds), Limestone-MSSM’s Eva Farkas (400-meter dash, 1:10.01), Fort Fairfield’s Teresa Maynard (high jump, 4 feet, 6 inches), Fort Fairfield’s Marissa Brouette (high jump, 4 feet, 6 inches; pole vault, 6 feet), Koch (long jump, 15 feet, 1 inch) and PI’s Regan Nelson (javelin, 89 feet; discus throw, 95 feet, 1 inch; and shot put, 32 feet, 3/4 inches).
Claiming four individual victories in the boys’ meet was Fort Fairfield’s Caleb Daigle, who took the 100-meter dash in 11.87 seconds, the 400 in 54.22 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 24.37 seconds and the discus with a mark of 126 feet, 10 inches.
Matt Toussaint of Fort Kent was also a four-event winner by taking the 3,200-meter run in 10:46.33, the 1,600 in 4:56 and the 800 in 2:07.85. He also teamed with Matt Swope, Jackson Ashby and Sam Ouellette to take the 4 x 800 relay in 9:42.04.
Dominic Judd of the Vikings came in first place in three events. He won the 110 hurdles in 16.86 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 44.02 seconds and the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches.
Caribou teammates coming away with wins were Mitchell St. Peter (1,600 racewalk, 7:31.61), the 4×100 relay team of Matt Caron, Ben Ezzy, Austin Griffeth and Apollo Grondin (49.89 seconds), the 4×400 relay team of Cory Jandreau, Evan Michaud, Elijah Verhoff and St. Peter (3:58.59) and Caron (pole vault, 8 feet, 6 inches)
Other event winners were Zach Rice of Presque Isle (long jump, 17 feet, 11-1/2 inches), Grier Osterman of Limestone-MSSM (triple jump, 37 feet, 2 inches) and Cole Butler of Limestone-MSSM (javelin, 147 feet, 9 inches) and Jacob Sperrey of Washburn (shot put, 39 feet, 8 inches).
Caribou will host another meet Saturday beginning at noon.
