The Caribou Vikings’ softball team were limited to one hit in the first game of a doubleheader against Old Town Saturday.
The team also was beaten in the nighcap. The Vikes did top Houlton last Wednesday and is now 2-3.
Softball summaries from last week’s contests are as follows:
Fort Fairfield 13, Wisdom 11 — Also on Monday, Chelsey Pelkey had three singles and Autumn Parady contributed two to lead the Tigers past Wisdom in St. Agatha.
Sara Edgecomb recorded the pitching win for Fort Fairfield, going the distance.
For the Pioneers, Breanna Lavoie had a triple and double while Tyra Michaud added a double.
Old Town 12, Caribou 0 — In game one of a doubleheader Saturday at Caribou, behind reigning Penobscot Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year Rachel Martin, Old Town picked up the run rule win. Martin struck out 11 batters in the six-inning, complete-game effort, giving up only one hit and not allowing a Caribou batter to reach second base.
Lauren Martin went 4 for 4 with two singles and two RBI to pace the Coyotes. Freshman Jaelynn Doody had the lone hit for Caribou. Rachel Soucy was handed the loss on the mound.
Old Town 10, Caribou 3 —In game two, the Vikings stayed within reach of Old Town until the seventh inning when the Coyotes pulled away with 5 runs to hold on for the win.
Leading the offense for Old Town was Brooke Sulinski with three singles. Mckenna Smith pitched all seven innings and gave up only four hits.
Bria Judd was the offensive leader for Caribou, picking up two hits, including a triple, and scoring a run. Maddie Doucette and Doody each singled. Jenna Boucher did the pitching for the Vikings.
Washburn 5, Fort Fairfield 3 — On Friday in Washburn, Joan Overman had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice to pace the Beavers to victory.
Catelyn Coulombe had one hit and two RBIs. Liza Durette pitched a complete game for Washburn.
Alexis Coiley went 3 for 4 with three singles to lead the 1-2 Tigers, while Morgan Towle had two singles and an RBI. Edgecomb took the loss on the mound.
Fort Fairfield 11, Southern Aroostook 10 — Autumn Parady recorded two singles, a double and two RBIs while Coiley added three singles and two RBIs to help the Tigers edge the Warriors Thursday.
Pelkey and Towle each chipped in with two singles and an RBI for the Tigers.
Caribou 14, Houlton 4 — At Houlton last Wednesday, Soucy earned the win by striking out seven. The Vikings capitalized on 20 walks surrendered by Shiretowner pitching. Soucy and Katie Pelletier each doubled to lead the offense.
Limestone-MSSM 25, Wisdom 2 — At Limestone last Tuesday, Maddie Williams collected four hits and drove in six runs and Kassee Albert and Jackie Peers also collected four hits apiece to lead the Eagles to the triumph.
Elly Bencivenga struck out 11 en route to the pitching win.
