American Flag ColorAR David Collins Sr    CARIBOU – David Allan Collins, Sr., 71, beloved husband of Patricia (Lunney) Collins, passed away on May 12, 2015. David was born January 22, 1944, in Bar Harbor, the son of William G. Collins and Margaret (Leighton) Collins.
    He attended schools in Southwest Harbor, Surry, Ellsworth and NMCC in Presque Isle. In 1961, he joined the Army and served in Korea. He was a member of the Maine National Guard, stationed at Starc Headquarters in Augusta. He retired in 2003 as Staff Sergeant after 22 years. From November 1990 – September 1991, he served on active duty at Fort Devens, Massachusetts and Augusta, Maine during Desert Storm. He was employed at Loring Air Force Base and Brunswick Naval Station in Civil Service for many years, retiring in 1999.
    David was owner of many businesses, including Caribou Airport Market, Aroostook Auction Company and Downeast Movers of Yarmouth, Computer Plus and Yarmouth Taxi of Yarmouth, Maine. He was recently employed at ATX and Cary Medical Center as a security guard. Until 2012, he was employed as a subcontractor for the Portland Press Herald newspaper.
    David was an avid Red Sox fan and was very active in Caribou Little League as a coach. He was past president and founder of the Caribou Babe Ruth Baseball League and Caribou Senior League. He was an avid bowler on both Caribou and Loring leagues. He enjoyed being a gentleman farmer, raising animals and poultry of all kinds.
    He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia; son David, Jr. and wife, Martina, of Caribou; son, William of Yarmouth; daughter, Caron Silsby and husband, Andrew, of Standish; daughter, Bonnie Hardy of Tennessee; sister, Sheila Robinson of Dover, Delaware; brother-in-law, Michael Lunney of Caribou; sister-in-law, Maureen Dalachinsky and husband, David, of Pembroke Pines, Florida; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and daughter, Carolee Lynn Ostlund.
    There will be a graveside service at the Veterans Cemetery on Friday May 22 at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.ripostafh.com. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
