Little League’s first full week complete

Results of Caribou Little League games played from May 12-15 are as follows: MVH/VFW 11, Machias Saving Bank 3; S.W. Collins 19, Police 8; K of C 7, KeyBank 6; Sleepers 9, Tigers 3; Hannaford 12, Machias Savings Bank 6; and Eagles 8, MVH/VFW 6.

S.W. Collins 19, Police 8
S.W. Collins jumped out to an early lead with a 10-run first inning and never looked back, cruising to a 19-8 victory over Police in last Wednesday’s game that was shortened by darkness.


Caleb Espling was the hitting leader for SWC with a double and single. Luke Tompkins, Landon Thompson, Kaleb Finelli, Keegan Bell and Tyler Soucy each had singles. Soucy picked up the win on the mound, with Thompson coming on in relief.
Abby McNeal and Cameron Ouellette each had two singles for Police, while Jeremy Bolen had a single and a triple.

K of C 7, KeyBank 6

Also last Wednesday, Ryan Austin pitched four innings, striking out nine and allowing two hits and one walk, while Cory Herbert relieved him and went the final three innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits, as K of C won the extra-inning contest.
In the seventh inning with no outs and runners on second and third, Keegan Brescia hit a fielder’s choice to score Calvin Hersey from third for the winning score.
The Knights’ Ari Plante did a good job catching and reached base four times and scored two runs. Austin, Carter Ouellette and Blake Anderson each contributed one hit each
For KeyBank, Cullen Caverhill had two hits and scored three runs. Alex Levesque, Spencer Soucy and Liam Martin all pitched well for Key Bank.

Sleepers 9, Tigers 3
Sleepers opened their season Friday with a 9-3 victory over the Tigers of Woodland.
The Sleepers team scored four times in the first inning and four times in the fifth, while adding a single run in the third, while the Tigers, who kept the game close for five innings, got single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
Sleepers was led offensively by newcomer Logan Greene with two singles and two runs scored. Hayden Hunter doubled and tripled and Aaron Saucier had a single and a triple. On the mound, Devin White went four innings for the win, while Hunter closed it out with a two-inning save. The duo combined for 12 strikeouts.  Sleepers got nice contributions from newcomer Alex Belanger and Ezra and Zach Judd.
For a tough Tigers team, Brooke Moir and Rylan Masse led the offense with a single and a double each.  Masse handled the mound duties, striking out six to keep the game close throughout, while Tanner Prashaw pitched the fifth.

Hannaford 12, MSB 6
Seven runs on seven hits in the first two innings for Hannaford’s offense set the stage for a decisive win over Machias Savings Bank Friday.
Hannaford’s offense was led by Ethan Holdsworth, who went 2 for 4 with two walks and four stolen bases. He scored in all four of his plate appearances, while Mikaela Spooner stretched the team’s second-inning rally with her first career hit.
Sawyer Deprey once again was dominant on the mound by going 4-1/3 innings while allowing only two hits with nine strikeouts. Destinee Goodridge closed out her second straight game, allowing two hits while fanning two over the remaining 1-2/3 innings.
Machias Savings Bank’s offense was led by Camryn Ala, who went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored two of teams runs. Brevin Barnes took the pitching loss, allowing seven hits over 4-1/3 innings and recording eight strikeouts. Zack Madore pitched well in relief for MSB.

Eagles 8, VFW/MVH 6
Connor Dodd had a triple and two singles, Krista McLaughlin had a triple, Ryan Ehlermann two doubles, Keith Bray and a double and a single to carry the Eagles to the close win Friday.
Dominick Crouch pitched 5-2/3 innings with 13 strikeouts and ripped a double to help his cause. Dylan Dodd came in to close out the game with the final out coming on a strikeout.
For VFW/MVH, Matt Smith pitched 5-1/3 innings and struck out four batters. Brannon Hall came on in relief. Offensively, Hall singled and scored twice, while teammate Jake Berkoski had two hits and scored two runs. Abby St Peter had one hit and scored a run and Elliott Sleeper ripped a double and scored as well.

Tigers 15, K of C 12
The Woodland Tigers snuck by the Knights of Columbus May 9. Both teams battled fiercely, with Masse making an impressive appearance on the mound for the Tigers followed by Gabby Sutherland and closing out with Bryant Hayes.
The Tigers had solid at bats with Matt McCormack, Ethan Albair, Prashaw, PJ Thornton, Masse,  Sutherland, Moir,  Hayes and Maddy Zeigler making nice contact. KC received solid pitching from Herbert,  Ryan Austin and Zack Caron.  Those three players and Carter Ouellette had nice at bats for KC.

Thursday, May 21: Hannaford at Eagles (Woodland).
Friday, May 22: MSB at S.W. Collins (White Field), Police at Eagles (Woodland), VFW/MVH at Hannaford (Rotary).
Saturday, May 23: Northstars at Sleepers (White Field), Noon.
Tuesday, May 26: Northstars at Tigers (Woodland), Sleepers at K of C (White Field), VFW/MVH at Police (Rotary).
All games begin at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
