CARIBOU & PRESQUE ISLE – Juanita D. Lancaster, 94, passed away on Friday, June 05, 2015, at her home in Presque Isle. Juanita was born in Limestone, the daughter of Gideon and Emily (Hitchcock) Davenport.
Juanita grew up in the Limestone school system, and then graduated college from the Normal School in 1942. She taught in the Caribou School System for more than 30 years. During this time, she met and married Jack Lancaster, and together started Lancaster Funeral Home in 1950 on Pleasant Street in Caribou. They later merged with Morgan Funeral Home of Caribou in 1972, to form the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home at its current location on Clover Street. Juanita and Jack were married for more than for 40 years until his death in 2002.
While Juanita taught the first grade and special education for many years, she also worked beside Jack as a funeral director’s wife in the funeral home. Juanita worked for more than 40 years at the funeral home, and only stopped in 2012 because of a shoulder injury at the age of 91.
Juanita is survived by her grandsons, Tyler Lancaster of Portland, and Casey Lancaster of Westbrook, and their mother, Kathy Lancaster.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her son, John; and her sisters, Gail and Anne.
Friends and family called from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou. A private service will be held at a later date.
