The University of Maine at Presque Isle honored several employees for their years of service during the annual Employee Recognition Reception held on May 21. Twenty-three employees were recognized for their combined 315 years of service to the university. Employees were honored with various tokens of appreciation, from clocks to framed art.
Those honored included:
• Recognized for 35 years of service was Maxine Hathaway;
• Recognized for 30 years of service was Chris Bell;
• Recognized for 25 years of service were Donald Sirois and Alan Gordon;
• Recognized for 20 years of service were James Stepp and Anthony Albert;
• Recognized for 15 years of service were Nancy Jackson, John DeFelice, Leo Saucier, Richard Harrison and Kim Sebold;
• Recognized for 10 years of service were Chunzeng Wang, Catherine Anne Chase, Jessica Winslow, Daren Green and Jeffrey Stevens; and
• Recognized for five years of service were Michelle Greene, Deena Albert Parks, Paul Stone, Paul Johnson, Peng Peng Yu, Donald Sutton and Trevor Parent.
During the Recognition Reception, officials also honored eight retirees: Ethelyn M. Boyd, administrative associate in the President’s Office; Suzanne M. Beaudet, professor of physical education; Virginia S. Fischer, reference/government information/reader services librarian; Barbara J. DeVaney, director of career services and director of AA/EEO/International Student Services; Christine L. Standefer, professor of physical education; Barbara Chalou, professor of education; Gretchen Brissette, library assistant II; and Nancy Fletcher, head of access services/technical services.
Also during the event, Boyd was presented with the Charles Bonin Work Ethic Award. Boyd has served the institution for 44 years and will retire at the end of May. The Bonin Award was established in 2013 to recognize an employee who demonstrates strong work ethic including diligence, reliability and initiative, and has strong principles that benefit the university.
“We owe a great deal of thanks to our dedicated and hard-working faculty and staff, as well as to our retiring employees, who have given many years of service, and in many cases the majority of their careers, to our campus,” UMPI President Linda Schott said. “Our employees work very hard every day to keep our campus running smoothly and efficiently. Due to their efforts, our campus community is stronger and our students are well served.”
