Downtown accident points to mechanical failure

CARIBOU, Maine – Heading south on Main Street last Thursday, Kyle Perkins, 27, of Caribou made a last-ditch effort and pulled on his emergency break to stop his 2006 Honda Pilot from careening out of control after a mechanical failure.
Perkins’ SUV eventually came to rest at the Herschel and Main street intersection, partially jumping a guardrail overlooking the Downtown Mall parking lot.

The Caribou Police Department responded to the accident at approximately 8:08 p.m. Authorities have reported that Perkins attempted to turn on to Park Street when the mechanical failure occurred.
Officer Douglas Bell was on scene and was assisted by officer Ricky Pelletier and Caribou Fire and Ambulance. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
