LIMESTONE, Maine — An evening of confusion left an unsanctioned nine-member advisory committee to argue the rules and regulations of Trafton Lake without any concrete results on July 8, 2015 at the town municipal building.
A committee to govern the financials of the lake area has already been in place for some time courtesy of town selectmen, but some residents of Limestone took the initiative to form their own group to help improve Trafton and attract more business to that area.
“We’re here to resolve access issues, and determine who controls the money that comes into Trafton Lake,” committee chair Fred Griffeth said.
After two hours of sorting through a nest of outdated rules and debating the conditions at Tafton Lake including the antiquated electrical system and ATV access trail the committee adjourned with no real ground covered since their group needs to be approved by town selectmen.
Recently hired recreation director and committee member Bill Tucker is on a mission to keep track of the flow of funds to the lake, “We’ll have better numbers in October after checking our spreadsheet,” he said.
Committee members Irma Labreck and former selectman Tom Devoe butted heads throwing the evening’s conversation off track and leaving chairman Griffeth to wheel in the reins. “We’re not here to fight. We’re here to better Trafton Lake,” he said.
The group is in its infancy and is still getting organized, but has big plans. Once they can lock down which group is in charge or at least cannibalize the financial committee they might have a leg to stand on.
Campers can look forward to updates to the electrical system, improved ATV rules, maybe WiFi access and the committee plans to grill a game warden on the laws of the land at a future meeting.
“We’re not going to leave Trafton like it is,” Griffeth said.
