PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) will host REcharge Labs, a small Minneapolis-based business dedicated to renewable energy education, on July 27, 2015 in their Wind Power Lab.
This free training session will provide Aroostook County educators with standards-aligned knowledge and tools to help their students build connections between STEAM – science, technology, engineering, art and math—and the social and environmental benefits and issues relating to wind and solar energy.
“The KidWind/Recharge event enables County middle school and high school teachers to see what information and activities are available to help them with teaching alternative energy topics to their students, especially wind,” said Wayne Kilcollins, NMCC wind power technology instructor. “The teachers will also see how the information fits with the STEAM curriculum.”
REcharge Labs began as a program of the KidWind project, and is now its own business. “We’ve been training teachers in renewable energy for over a decade, but when we launched REcharge Labs last year, one of our goals was to expand and improve upon these trainings to give educators access to top-quality tools for their classrooms, empowering them to build students’ excitement for learning through science,” said Michael Arquin, lab founder and co-director.
The business offers both student and instructor training. The maximum capacity for this free session is 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. For information or to register, go to www.kidwind.org/wind-energy-training-northern-me.
