Coming home

I just returned from Florida after visiting my Mom for two weeks. She turned 90 this year and, thank God, she is still living on her own and doing just fine. And while it was wonderful to see her and sit by the pool and read books, it was just as good to come home.

Home to me means my own bed and flower gardens. It means people who know who I am and say hello in greetings. It is so much greener than Florida where the sun beats down unmercifully. And home means that when you go into local stores, they still treat you like they are glad to see you. In Florida, customers are an inconvenience and trying to find a friendly face is like looking for the Mona Lisa amidst a sea of Elvis velvet paintings.

Before we get to Lydia’s section and all the great activities going on, I do want to remind folks that we’d love to have a great parade this year for Caribou Cares About Kids. The parade is on August 7 and the signup sheet can be found on our website under Popular Forms or you can pick one up here at the office.

We at the Chamber have been restocked with our very popular Caribou bracelets. It is amazing how many of them I have shipped to ex-pats who want a piece of home with them. Come and get yours while they are again in stock!
