Caribou wins soccer tourney

       The Caribou I team defeated Presque Isle II in the finals of the annual 7v7 boys’ high school summer soccer tournament held Saturday at Caribou High School.

       Michael Hunter and Matt Caron scored goals in Caribou’s 2-0 victory. Caribou I bested Fort Fairfield in one semifinal, 2-1, while Presque Isle II topped Houlton in the other, 1-0.

       Thirteen high school teams participated — three from Presque Isle, two from Caribou and one each from Ashland/Washburn, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Hodgdon, Houlton, Limestone and Madawaska.

Men’s basketball update

       Caribou is once again hosting a summer men’s basketball league. Games are played at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center Mondays and Wednesdays. The championship game is set for Aug. 10.

       The league standings are as follows: Aroostook Warriors (3-0), Caribou I (3-1), Gagnon’s Studio (2-0), Kingsbury’s Team (1-1), Caribou II (1-3), Long Shots (0-2) and Bomb Squad (0-3).

       Scores of games played in July: Aroostook Warriors 67, Kingsbury’s Team 65; Gagnon’s Studio 96, Caribou II 88, Gagnon’s Studio 111, Long Shots 53; Caribou I 78, Bomb Squad 67; and Aroostook Warriors 89, Caribou II 86.
