VAN BUREN, Maine — Van Buren District Secondary School has announced this year’s honor parts for graduation, which was held June 12, 2015. Representing their class are Courtney Parent, valedictorian; Isabel Parent, salutatorian; and Shania Gagnon, honor essayist.
Courtney Parent is the daughter of Jamie and Sharon Parent. She is the recipient of the 2015 Maine Principal’s Award. She is a member and secretary of the National Honor Society, class secretary, has been captain of the varsity soccer, basketball, and tennis teams, a member of the local Catholic Youth Ministry, Miss Van Buren 2015, and has been dancing at The Maine Dance Academy for 14 years.
She has won many academic awards, including the Phi Beta Kappa Award, and athletic awards, such as taking part in the Maine McDonald’s All Star Basketball Games.
She plans to attend the University of New England to study pre-med/biology, with the hopes of becoming a pediatrician in the future. Courtney enjoys spending time and having fun with her family and friends.
Isabel Parent is the daughter of Bill and Lisa Parent of Hamlin. She is president of the National Honor Society, president of the Student Senate, has been co-captain of the varsity soccer, basketball, and tennis teams, is a member of the local Catholic Youth Ministry, and is a member of Project Grad 2015.
Isabel has won many academic awards throughout high school and plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in the fall to pursue a degree in animal and veterinary science (pre-vet). She loves singing, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends.
Shania Gagnon is the daughter of Philip and Joyce Gagnon. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, class president, a varsity basketball manager and a member of the local Youth Ministry.
Shania has won various awards throughout high school and plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington to major in biology with a concentration in pre-med. She enjoys helping those in need and spending time with family and friends.
