S.W. Collins Company named 2015 “all star”

The term “all star” is typically not used in the lumber and hardware industry, so when S.W. Collins Co. was named as one of the 50 All Stars in the 2015 Hardware + Building Supply Dealer All Star Project, it was bandied as quite an achievement.

The fifty Hardware All Stars – hardware stores, lumberyards and farm and ranch retailers – are selected from a wide variety of distributors, vendors and nominations from the industry. One business is selected from each state.

“This year’s Hardware All Star selection was the result of careful deliberation,” said Ken Clark, editor in chief of Hardware + Building Supply Dealer Magazine.  “When there are so many outstanding retailers to choose from, it’s hardly ever an easy choice.”

However, it’s the stores that go above and beyond the call of duty that get the prize, and that can mean different things for different retailers. This year’s Hardware All Star selection represented some of the country’s best product knowledge, customer service, and community involvement, as well as some of the best stories and idiosyncrasies.

“We are thrilled to be chosen as the 2015 Hardware All Star for the State of Maine,” said Sam Collins, president of S.W. Collins Co.  “The dedication and commitment to customer service and excellence from all our associates from Lincoln to Caribou have made this award possible.”

Though it’s been around for more than 170 years, this lumberyard company is still making big moves: It just opened up a new facility in Lincoln, featuring a 25,000-sq.-ft. drive-through lumberyard, an 18,000-sq.-ft. store and millwork warehouse.

S.W. Collins is a fifth-generation Aroostook County lumber and building supply dealer with locations in Lincoln, Houlton, Presque Isle and Caribou.  Their commitment to offering excellent products and legendary service has been the core of the business since 1844.
